Spam

Spam is not just mails that are unwanted and annoying. Spam also refers to the phenomenon when websites appear at the top of the search results pages for your search terms, even though the search terms are not actually present on the pages.

To combat this type of spam, search engine operators rely on sophisticated strategies and algorithms. You can safely forget the following tricks that are still around. You can no longer fool Google with them.

  • White lettering on a white background (red on red, black on black, etc.)
  • stuff the page with search terms
  • stuff the meta tags with search terms
  • Make texts invisible with CSS or move them out of the screen area
  • Doorway pages (ranking pages, bridge pages) that take you somewhere else in zero seconds
  • Set invisible links (regardless of the method used)
  • Present pages to search engines other than to human visitors („cloaking“)
  • offer the same content under different domains

There are still websites that work with such methods and may not be doing so badly in the search results pages. But a continuous deterioration of these positions can already be observed.

Conclusion

Work cleanly. It's better to invest time and effort in new, original content.
